Throughout Spain during the past 10 years golf has become an increasingly popular sport. As a result of this more than 180 new golf courses have been built. It is estimated that more than a million tourists are choosing to visit Spain to play golf. On average these golf tourists are spending more than €1,000 during their stay. As a result such holidays are generating more than 1,000 million Euros towards the country’s economy each year. Yet although many still choose to head to the Costa del Sol, there are some amazing courses to play close to Madrid. Here is ShMadrid´s choice of top golf courses and clubs.

The best golf courses
The National Golf Centre (Centro Nacional de Golf) is owned by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, but is in fact located on public owned land. The land was provided by Madrid City Council and is located next to Monte del Pardo, Mirasierra neighborhood and the M-40 ring road. This is an urban public course and can be reached by travelling on the metro from the centre of the city. This 18 hole course is located in an area cover a total of 62 hectares. Within it are 10 par 4 holes, 4 par 3 holes and 4 par 5 holes.
The Villa Madrid Golf Club is a public course comprising a total of 36 holes. You will find it situated in the centre of the city. This particular one of our Madrid top golf courses and clubs was established in 1929. Making it not only one of Spain’s oldest courses but is also one of the most imposing courses. The main course known as The Black Course is one that where regular European Tour events take place, which was designed by Javier Arana. As for The Yellow Course this is one that anyone wishing to play golf in Spain must try. On this course 9 of the holes on this course were designed by Javier Arana and the other by the legend that is Seve Ballesteros.

La Herreria was created in 1967. You’ll find it situated in the foothills of the Guadarrama mountain range at San Lorenzo. This is another spectacular 18 hole course and measures a total of 6,091 metres. The course itself was created by Antonio Lucena and is a par 72.
Each of the 18 holes on the 72 course Jardin de Aranjuez Golf Course have been developed to ensure that they integrate well into the urbanization where located. The course itself has a great deal of variety and there is a great area where you can practice before heading out for a game. Also it has a wonderful putting green and approach green to practice on. This course is one of the easiest of all our Madrid top golf courses and clubs to play.
