Where to try out indoor rock climbing in Madrid

Written by Laurence

Climbers have a great amount of choice when it comes to training in Madrid.  Madrilenos are great sports lovers, and climbing is a well loved and well catered-for activity.  For beginners or those wanting to know more, indoor rock climbing is the perfect sport for adrenaline junkies who love a proper workout while getting their thrills.  It looks like fun but is actually a lot of hard work on the body – good teachers will guide you on how to use your lower body strength to achieve your climbs and balance your weight.  Of course, outdoor climbing is amazing fun, but the benefits of indoor climbing are many – there are no weather restrictions, it’s much safer, and you’ll receive controlled guidance from skilled teachers.  Climbing is a great social sport to be done with friends, and can be a great workout and fitness alternative to the traditional gym membership.

Placax

The major drawcard at Placax is the monster 15m sheer wall with varied routes.  Known as a friendly club, this is a great first stop for amateurs or first timers.  It’s based on the southern fringes of the city, but for those who don’t live nearby, it can be worth the commute to make the most of the monster climbing wall, and the friendly atmosphere at a lower rate than most centres in the heart of Madrid. Check out their website for some inspirational training videos! (Avenida de Europa -no number- 28916)
