Enjoy Madrid’s refreshing swimming pools
Swimming pools are great to cool off and they allow you to fully enjoy a hot summer, year after year. Here are some of the best pools in the city, that are ideal in the summer time.
Piscinas de Cercedilla Las Dehesas
The Cercedilla pools are located at the Las Dehesas recreational area. The small pools are located along the Arroyo de la Venta (Valle de la Fuenfría), which eventually flows into the Río Guadarrama.
Its swimming pools are treated with chlorine and there are bathrooms, an information kiosk, parking facilities, tables, fountains and if you love hiking, there are several hiking routes.
Many people from Madrid visit these pools in summer, and they have been constructed in a completely natural area in 1978. The Las Berceas recreational area also has a snack bar, lawns to relax on, bathrooms, changing rooms and a medical station.
The pools are open until the end of August, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the entrance fee is €6 on weekdays and €7 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Children under 14 and people over 65 years of age pay only €4.

Parque deportivo Puerta de Hierro
The Puerta de Hierro Sports Park is one of the main sports areas in the Community of Madrid. It is not only an area for sports activities, but also for leisure and recreation. Six Madrid Federations (golf, pádel, football, rowing, rugby and archery) currently have their headquarters at this location.
The Puerta de Hierro Sports Park has the largest water surface of all summer pools, that are being managed by the Community of Madrid. It is a total of 7258 square meters (almost seven times larger than an Olympic pool) and when it opened this pool in Madrid was the largest outdoor pool in Europe.
It has three swimming pools that are linked together: a general pool, with a surface of 5693 square meters, an Olympic swimming pool of 800 square meters and another pool especially for children of 765 square meters.
The park also has a nice lawn, a cafeteria, toilets, showers and changing rooms, and these facilities are all located on a terrain of 23,600 square meters.
Riosequillo
The natural swimming pool of Riosequillo is located at the Riosequillo reservoir, which is in the Municipality of Buitrago de Lozoya in Madrid. It is the largest natural swimming pool in all of Spain. The area consists of 4,500 square meters and it has a capacity of 2,000 people.
Although the water is treated with chlorine, it is still as cold as the water in the river. This recreational area has picnic facilities, bathrooms, changing rooms, a beach bar, indoor football and basketball courts and a children’s playground.
