Renting an apartment in Opañel is ideal for anyone who wishes to live in a residential area with a variety of services and shops.

The neighbourhood of Opañel is part of the district of Carabanchel, which lies in the south of Madrid, and it is bordered by Calle de Antonio Leyva to the east; Avenida de Oporto to the south; and Calle del General Ricardos to the west.

In the north of the neighbourhood you will find Glorieta del Marqués de Vadillo (a roundabout), and it is located opposite Puente de Toledo. This is a great place for its bars, and when the weather is good, most of them have a lovely terrace.

Opañel is one of the most complete districts in Madrid, and it is located in the south of the Spanish capital.

The area is an excellent location for families, and this is mainly due to the many commercial zones. It is the perfect place to be if you want to relax on weekend afternoons.

The area has excellent public transport by bus and metro, and there are several shopping options and large, residential zones.

Avenida Oporto is one of the main streets in this neighbourhood with many different types of shops. It starts at Plaza de Elíptica and ends at Calle del General Ricardos. In the same street you will find the Centre Cultural de Carabanchel, and perpendicular to Avenida Oporto, Calle Portalegre houses Carabanchel’s Official School of Languages.

Calle del General Ricardos is the district’s main street, and it crosses the whole area. This is truly the most important road and an essential commercial zone.

The final stretch of Camino Viejo de Leganés is another commercial area. It starts in Urgel (General Ricardos) and ends in Pan Bendito. This is actually one of the busiest streets and has all kinds of shops.

Bus line 118 (between Carabanchel Alto and Embajadores) runs through this area, and it also follows part of Calle del General Ricardos (the main street in Carabanchel).

What to see in the neighbourhood of Opañel in Madrid

Sacramental de San Lorenzo y San José (a cemetery) is one of the most interesting sights to see in the neighbourhood of Opañel. You can see a monument with four angels who guard the urns of the couple Julián Romea and Matilde Díez in the centre of the cemetery.

Also laid to rest here are: sculptors Ponciano Ponzano and Eulogio Florentino Sanz; poets Ventura Ruiz de Aguilera, Abel Bonnard, José de Selgas and Gabriel García Tassara; writer José de Castro y Serrano; polygrapher Roque Barcia; historian Modesto Lafuente; novelist Enrique Pérez Escrich; painter Bernardo Rico; bullfighter Domingo del Campo "Dominguín"; and musician Sckozdopole.
